Montville State School's Student Leadership Program provides students from Year 5 and 6 with team building skills, leadership training and skill developments. There are many opportunities to experience positions of responsibility in year 6 at Montville State School. These opportunities include: Working within the Student Council, as Sports Captains, Band Captains, Library Captain, Environmental Captain and as School Captains.

Year 6 students enjoy the responsibility of leading the end of week parade on Friday afternoons. Each student has the opportunity to speak in front of the school, organize seating and the setup of communication/AV equipment.

The Student Council, which is made up of the Class of Year 6 and two class captains from each class meets on a Monday Lunch each fortnight.  The Year 6 teacher, Principal and Student Welfare Worker all attend meetings to support the student council.  Many ideas that have arisen from these meetings have been implemented.  Including new wet weather games, seating around the school and the organisation of many school events.
